Great article. The concentration of migrants in urban areas inflating productivity data isn't something that occurred to me before- I wonder if remote work would alter the calculus there?

Why would politicians encourage fertility in detriment to immigration when a strong family unit is the biggest obstacle to big government.

Fascinating article, and matches my personal experience. My wife and I left San Francisco - and took our manufacturing business with us - to rural Oregon in 1992. Already by then the huge influx of illegal Mexicans was at the top of our list of reasons for leaving, especially regarding "Mechanism 2: Behavioral Differences". Loud, dirty, sexually aggressive, violent people are not fun to live around.

"In short, actually-existing immigration drives locals away, and in the place where this effect is measured best (the United States), it is large enough to fully explain otherwise-puzzling changes in internal migration since 1970."

One of the main reasons locals are driven away is immigration, which causes low wages.

This is not rocket surgery.

"Instead, it is the immigrants themselves that benefit from the upward mobility powered by high-productivity cities."

Name a high-productivity city and the products it produces in the United States. Most immigrants, at least those from third-world countries, move to large cities for menial jobs or assistance handouts.

"For instance, in Britain, ethnic minorities are overrepresented by a factor of three in London, which has 50% higher productivity than the rest of the country."

You are using GDP* or wages as an indicator of 'productivity.' I do not live in the UK, but I suspect London is analogous to NYC. Both are financial centers and 'produce' financial products. NYC has a minuscule manufacturing presence, and most inhabitants are service providers to the wealthy. I suspect London is the same.

* Sadly, GDP includes finance and service providers, which 'produce' nothing of value to the vast majority of the populace.

You are so shameless your whole ideology is affirmative action and gibs for whites because you coddled losers cant outcompete immigrants so your next point is demanding gibs so that mediocre whites like you can compete while simultaneously also denying that opportunities to black and hispanic Americans😂 and yet you think you are worthy of being listened to and respected 😂? Absolute clowns. Keep building a house of cards on loser middle class and failing white male resentment and let see where that goes😂.
