A gradient of childhood self-control predicts health, wealth, and public safety. Terrie Moffitt and colleagues examine the impact of childhood self-control on later outcomes. Using a composite measure of self-control based on parent ratings, teacher ratings and self-reports, they find that higher childhood self-control is associated with better health, greater wealth, less family breakdown and less criminality.

A global analysis of matches and mismatches between human genetic and linguistic histories. Chiara Barbieri and colleagues examine the congruence of genetic and linguistic similarity across a large number of populations. They find that while congruence is generally high, about 20% of comparisons yield mismatches whereby genetically similar populations speak very different languages. Such mismatches therefore appear to be quite frequent.
