Comprehension in economic games. Lina Koppel and colleagues study to what extent participants in economic games (e.g., the Dictator Game, the Trust Game) understand the games. They had participants play five such games and then asked them comprehension questions. Misunderstanding was common: 22% misunderstood the Dictator Game, while 70% misunderstood the Trust Game. It was associated with more “pro-social” game play.
Empathic Conservatives and Moralizing Liberals: Political Intergroup Empathy Varies by Political Ideology and Is Explained by Moral Judgment. James Casey and colleagues examine to what extent liberals and conservatives show empathy for their political opponents. Across four studies in the US and UK, they find that conservatives consistently show more empathy than liberals. The asymmetry is partly explained by liberals rating conservatives as more harmful than vice versa.
