Genetic origins of Utilitarian versus Kantian moral philosophy in heritable motivations for egalitarian beneficence and coercive redistribution. Timothy Bates examines the genetic basis for utilitarian moral judgements. Analysing data on Australian twins, he finds that a belief in utilitarianism, as measured by the Oxford Utilitarianism Scale, is substantially heritable (h2 = 0.5). Both of the scale’s subdimensions (impartial beneficence and instrumental harm) were also heritable.
These universities have the most retracted scientific articles. Analysing data from three private research analytics firms, Richard Van Noorden examines which universities have the most retracted scientific articles. Seven out of the top 10 are Chinese. At Jining First People’s Hospital in China, 5% of all articles have been retracted. Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, China, Pakistan and Iraq have the highest retraction rates.
