Towards conversational diagnostic artificial intelligence. Tao Tu and colleagues examine whether AI is better than human doctors at diagnosing patients’ medical conditions through written questions and answers. In a randomised experiment, they found that AI performed better than human doctors on almost all measures of diagnostic accuracy. One caveat is that human doctors rarely use written questions and answers in clinical practice.
Cultural Psychology: Beyond East and West. Shinobu Kitayama and Cristina Salvador review the literature on cultural psychology, focusing on cross-national research. They examine four cultural dimensions that are believed to explain differences across countries: dependent versus interdependent self, individualism versus collectivism, tightness versus looseness of social norms, and relational mobility. They also consider the role of geography and ecology.
