Political diversity in U.S. police agencies. Bocar Ba and colleagues examine the political views and on-the-job behaviour of US police officers. Analysing data on a third of all officers, they find that they are more likely to vote Republican than the communities they serve. They also find minimal partisan differences in on-the-job behaviour. However, they confirm the previous finding that black and Hispanic officers make fewer stops and arrests.
Mortality, morbidity and educational outcomes in children of consanguineous parents in the Born in Bradford cohort. Neil Small and colleagues examine the impact of consanguinity (cousin marriage) on the health and educational outcomes of children in a sample of White British and Pakistani families. They find that children of consanguineous marriages are more likely to die by age 10, have higher rates of hospital attendance and have worse educational outcomes.
