The impact of chief diversity officers on diverse faculty hiring. Steven Bradley and colleagues examine the impact of chief diversity officers on demographic diversity at US colleges. Analysing data from 2001 to 2019, they find that hiring a chief diversity officer has no effect on the demographic diversity of faculty who are subsequently hired. This suggests that other factors explain the trend toward greater demographic diversity at US colleges.

Are we destined for a zero-sum future? John Burn-Murdoch examines the relationship between economic growth and the belief that “people can only get rich at others’ expense”. Analysing data from the World Values Survey, he finds that individuals who experienced lower rates of growth as young adults are more likely to hold the belief. He also finds that recent generations in rich countries are more likely to hold the belief.
