Hot Temperature and High-Stakes Performance. Jisung Park examines the relationship between temperature and exam performance. Analysing 13 years of data from the largest public school district in the US, he finds that graduation rates are strongly negatively related to the average temperature on exam days. He concludes that hundreds of thousands of exams that failed would have passed under cooler conditions.
Inspection time and intelligence: a five-wave longitudinal study from age 70 to age 82 in the Lothian Birth Cohort 1936. Ian Deary and colleagues examine cognitive aging from age 70 to age 82 among a cohort of Scots. They find that age-related changes in inspect time (a measure of the speed of visual information processing) were very strongly correlated (r = .90) with age-related changes in general cognitive ability.
