Do Wars in the Middle East Cause Mass Immigration into Europe? Noah Carl examines whether wars in the Middle East cause mass immigration into Europe. Analysing data from the UN’s International Migrant Stock database, he finds that Muslim countries with Western military interventions have seen larger increases in migrant stocks than those without interventions. There are some caveats, however.
Too Much of a Good Thing. The Economist examines the relationship between vehicle weight and fatality rates in two-vehicle collisions in the US. Analysing ten years of data from 14 states, they find that people are more likely to survive if they are driving a heavier vehicle but are much more likely to die if they are hit by one. Hence the social benefits of heavy vehicles are outweighed by the social costs.
