Theories of Independent Intelligences as a Lakatosian Research Program. Jonathan Egeland argues that the “multiple intelligences” research program is degenerating because it has not led to novel predictions that are supported by empirical data. In the author’s view, the theory of multiple intelligences tells us more about the philosophy and sociology of science than about the nature and structure of human intelligence.
The relationship between intelligence and reaction time varies with age: Results from three representative narrow-age age cohorts at 30, 50 and 69 years. Geoff Der and Ian Deary examine the relationship between intelligence and reaction time at different ages. In a Scottish sample, they find that the relationship becomes stronger with age. The correlation between intelligence and 4-choice reaction time rises from –.44 at age 30 to –.53 at age 69.
