Is Wikipedia Politically Biased? David Rozado investigates the extent of political bias in Wikipedia articles. He examines the sentiment (positive or negative) with which a set of political figures (e.g., names of US presidents) are described. He finds a moderate tendency for right-wing political figures to be described with more negative sentiment. This is particularly concerning given LLMs are routinely trained on Wikipedia.
Transgender Identity and Suicide Attempts and Mortality in Denmark. Annette Erlangsen and colleagues examine whether transgender people have higher rates of suicide attempt and mortality than non-transgender people. Analysing register data on 6 million people in Denmark, they find that transgender people have significantly higher rates of suicide attempt and mortality, as well as higher rates of all-cause mortality.
Cognitive Abilities and Educational Attainment as Antecedents of Mental Disorders: A Total Population Study of Males. Magnus Nordmo and colleagues examine the association between cognitive ability and various mental disorders. Analysing a large sample of Norwegian men, they find that cognitive ability is associated with a monotonically decreasing risk of all the mental disorders studies except for bipolar disorder.
